(Video) Mass Appeal ‘Open Space’ Interview with Smooky MarGielaa

admin / 11 Sep, 2017

Smooky Margielaa has had quite the start to his young career. The 15-year-old Bronx native appears four times on the latest A$AP Mob album, ‘Cozy Tapes Vol. 2: Too Cozy’, and has garnered the support of A$AP Rocky, Lil Yachty and Juicy J—just to name a few—in recent weeks and months. In the latest episode of “Open Space,” Margielaa sits with us to discuss how he got this hot this quickly, and plans for his upcoming project, ‘Margiela Mad Man.’

“I used to play an instrument and all that, so it’s like the music is in my blood, feel me?” Smooky tells MASS APPEAL during his brief interview. “Any time I get in the booth, I just spit melodies. Sometimes I spit melodies and I’m like, ‘What the hell? Oh, this one is fire,’ feel me? I don’t even be believing I be doing it. It’s crazy.”

Smooky is making the best of his burgeoning fame, but he nearly never met A$AP Rocky or appeared on the ‘Cozy Tapes’ album. In a recent interview, he explained how he snuck into a Bronx club after meeting Rocky, a slick move that impressed the Harlem star. Afterwards, the two linked back up in Los Angeles to make music, and the legend of Smooky was born.

Smooky arrived to his MASS APPEAL interview with Drew Drippy, a friend and fellow Bronx native that helped Smooky graduate from making songs on a phone app to getting into the booth and forming a relationship with a manager who doubled as a math tutor. “At first, Smooky wasn’t really with it. ‘I don’t know, my teacher, my mom, parents…,’” says Drippy. “I’m like, ‘Yo. If it’s really that serious, you could have the teacher call your parents, tell them it’s an afterschool program,’ feel me?”

Whatever it takes. Watch Smooky and Drew recount their come-up in “Open Space” above.
