Smooky MarGielaa Talks To Interview Magazine

by @Djordje

In an era flooded with rappers who only seem to be getting younger, the 15-year-old Bronx star Smooky Margielaa stands out. He’s emerged in a cluttered New York rap environment, where artists and collectives from every borough are striving to become the next Bobby Shmurda or Cardi B. His local contemporaries include the artists in Brooklyn’s drill scene, the lo-fi Slums crew that stretches from Crown Heights to the Bronx, Staten Island’s Squidnice, and Queens’ Flee. Amid the competition, Margielaa’s got a rare ability to render emotionally resonant AutoTuned melodies in sharp detail, recalling the late Speaker Knockerz.

Margielaa credits his style to the West African music he encountered during his youth. His dad is the famous Malian musician Abdoulaye Diabaté; Margielaa grew up playing the balafon, a West African instrument similar to a xylophone. “When I play the balafon, it has melodies in it,” he explained to Pigeons and Planes. “Sometimes, you can hear that melody in my voice.” This experience lends a depth to his music lacked by many of his peers in the realm of teen-centric internet rap.

A$AP Ferg on How the New Rock Stars Are Rappers (and Why He Doesn’t Hang Out with Them)

by @Djordje

Once known mostly as A$AP Rocky’s stylish and raucous running mate, A$AP Ferg has spent the past several years carving out his own territory as an artist: bombastic and emotional, confessional, a little disrespectful. He’s a curious and restless musician who also, when he feels like it, will make a song like “New Level,” with Future, that could destroy a whole city skyline. In person, he has a round, friendly face, and today—reclining on a couch in a photo studio on the west side of Manhattan—red leather pants. Last August, he released a galvanizing mixtape, Still Striving. But he’s already working on the next thing. “I’m rapping like I’ve never rapped before,” he says. “Pushing myself as an artist to make better art. And just try to make more effective art. Art with intention.”

A$AP Ferg Talks New Collaboration With Hennessy, How His Family Shaped His Character

by @Djordje

The first 100 orders (via CocktailCourier.com) will receive a limited-edition vinyl of Ferg’s new track “Family” and a pressed record with the cover art painted by the rapper himself. The Uptown’s campaign video meets the MC in his stomping grounds, with the Hennessy team spotlighting “[the] unique creative process that’s established him as a master behind the mic, as well as in other endeavors, including painting.”

Billboard went behind the canvas with Harlem’s Trap Lord, as the mogul also shared his artistic ambitions, his one-of-one cognac recipe, the influence of family on his career, what the late A$AP Yams taught him, and what upcoming projects fans can expect from him.

by @Djordje

Hennessy, the world’s best-selling Cognac, recognizes those who “Never stop. Never settle.” in the pursuit of perfection.
