Forbes: Inside The Surreal, Cool And Entertaining World Of A$AP Mob

by @Djordje

Hanging with ASAP Mob, the collective that features ASAP Rocky, ASAP Ferg, ASAP Twelvvy, ASAP Nast and ASAP Ant, is unlike any other experience in music. How cool are ASAP Mob? We are backstage in a dressing room before their show at L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium when Rocky leaves the room for just a moment.

When he comes back in he is joined by rapper Schoolboy Q and actor John C. Reilly, who appears on the group’s Cozy Tapes Vol. 2, among others. Just another Tuesday night in the very unique, entertaining and kind of surreal Mob world.

However, the most entertaining and engaging part is listening to the way they interact with each other. When Rocky refers to them as family it does not feel like hyperbole. They joke with each other like family for certain. Perhaps that is why they admit that they are more reluctant to play their solo music for each other, because they care so much what the others think

It’s just one of the many fascinating things that come out in getting to hang backstage with ASAP Mob.

Steve Baltin: How does it feel to be named the “Flyest Human Being Alive”?

ASAP Rocky: I’m not a human being, I try to tell them. Fergie, we not human.

Baltin: So what are you then?

Rocky: Man, we extra-terrestrials. We not extra, we extra-terrestrial. I don’t know, I’m still trying to figure that out.

A$AP Mob’s 5 Tips To Staying Sane on Tour

by @Djordje

New York-based hip hop collective A$AP Mob stormed onto the scene in 2012 with a self-released viral mixtape and haven’t looked back since, going on to claim #1 album spots on the Billboard charts while also impacting the worlds of fashion, art, and film.

Comprised of rappers, record producers, video directors, and fashion designers, The Mob has earned both critical and popular acclaim for their swag-heavy trunk rattling sound, keeping their rabid fanbase satisfied with a steady output of music releases and various other projects.

The Mob’s most well-known member, A$AP Rocky, is one of the most ubiquitous figures in pop culture and a good measure for just how large the collective’s impact has been. Serving as creative director at MTV and the face of Dior Homme, Rocky’s style and sound has caught the attention of the industry’s leading eyes and ears, earning two features on Lana Del Rey’s recent critically acclaimed album and even landing a role in “Zoolander 2.”

A$AP Rocky & KandyPens Team Up for the Flacko Jodye Vaporizer Collection

by @Djordje

A$AP Rocky has a penchant for locking down big-time partnerships. His stout resume includes: Mercedes Benz, Dior Homme, Courvoisier and more. On Tuesday (Sept. 5), the Harlem MC added a new venture into his list of partnerships, as he teams up with KandyPens to launch his signature line of vape pens called the Flacko Jodye Collection.

Rocky’s Flacko Jodye Collection contains a wood veneer with gold trim reminiscent of the wood paneling on vintage Rolls-Royces. In addition, the Flacko Jodye Collection comes fully equipped with a variety of attachments for liquids, oils, waxes and concentrates. For those searching for a lavish look, the vape pen’s carrying case replicates a 1930’s cigarette. The limited-edition collectors item comes in four different finishes including Rosewood, Maple, Mahogany, and Walnut.

“ASAP Rocky is truly a taste maker of our generation in both music and fashion so we were thrilled when he wanted to work with us on creating a vaporizer set for the future, while at the same time capturing a classic style, reminiscent of the golden era,” says Graham Gibson, president and ceo of KandyPens. “We are thrilled at how this project turned out and can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.”

A$AP Mob Interview with XXL

by @Djordje

Inside Platinum Sound Recording Studios there’s roughly 30 music industry folks drinking Brooklyn Lagers and eating an assortment of deli meats and mini sandwiches. As a bevy of weed smoke fills up the air, A$AP Ant a.k.a YG Addie, J. Scott, A$AP Lou, Key!, A$AP Ferg and A$AP Rocky are seen relaxing on the couch as onlookers surround them. The scene is the definition of cozy; from tracksuit shorts to baggy T-shirts, A$AP Mob are chilling like they’re in their own living room. Rocky introduces what’s to come and begins to play the first fours songs of Cozy Tapes, Vol. 2: Too Cozy. While the project can be heard throughout the room, Rocky gets his Spike Jonze on, walking around the room filming the listeners with a handheld camcorder. There are smiles and shoulder rolls everywhere until the music pauses. The Mob want to wait for A$AP Nast to arrive.

Rap fans have been waiting for Cozy Tapes, Vol. 2 since it was teased just a few months after Cozy Tapes: Vol. 1 dropped last October. The time between the two installments is less that a year apart, making it cear that the Mob are sitting on a ton of new music. In a blink of an eye, Vol. 2 was already on consumers’ phones and laptops.

The second installment of the Cozy Tapes series includes features from everyone in the A$AP Mob and AWGE collective. A$AP Twelvyy, A$AP Ferg, A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ant, A$AP Nast and A$AP TyY are on the tape plus new affiliated members Playboi Carti, Key! and Smooky Margielaa—a charismatic 15-year-old rapper from the Bronx. Other guest appearances are Chief Keef, Lil Yachty, Gucci Mane, Schoolboy Q, Joey Bada$$ and Pro Era, Flatbush Zombies, Jaden Smith, Quavo, and Frank Ocean. Vol. 2, Too Cozy is a friends-only project.

Since the first installment of the Cozy Tapes, several Mob members have dropped their own projects including Twelvyy’s long-awaited 12 and Ferg’s Still Striving mixtape, a year after his second album, Always Strive and Prosper. Now that Vol. 2 is here, things are only going to get busier while other members patiently wait for their turn to drop their solo work.

During the Cozy Tapes, Vol. 2: Too Cozy listening session, XXL sat down with the members of the Mob to learn more about Smooky Margielaa, discuss who had the best verse on the Vol. 2, what projects are coming out next and the real definition of cozy.

A$AP Mob Interview with Complex

by @Djordje

The second installment of the Cozy Tape series dropped last week and ASAP Mob, as a collective, are finally starting to come together. From the beginning, Rocky and Ferg have been the Mob’s breakout stars, boasting a series of hits and platinum and gold albums. Then, after those careers were up and running, the crew lost its founder, ASAP Yams, during the rollout of Rocky’s sophomore album At. Long. Last. ASAP. However, in the aftermath of the tragdy, it seems like losing Yams made the crew stronger, closer, more focused on their music. ASAP Twelvyy finally dropped his long-awaited project 12, Ferg released Still Strivin’ a year after his second album Always Strive and Prosper, and Rocky is set to drop his third solo album later this year, or at least that what he told us at the Cozy Boys, Vol. 2: Too Cozy listening session.

Both Cozy Tapes are more polished than the crew’s first mixtape, Lords Never Worry. The second version, properly titled Too Cozy, features Chief Keef, Key!, new Mob members Playboi Carti and Smooky Margielaa (a 15-year-old from the Bronx), Lil Yachty, Gucci Mane, Schoolboy Q, Joey Badass and Pro Era, Flatbush Zombies, Jaden Smith, Quavo, and Frank Ocean. In short, all their friends, as the first tape was aptly entitled.

Complex had the pleasure of talking to the Mob during a break as they ate Chinese food and smoked trees and caught up on everything from durag-wearing techniques, their favorite songs on Cozy Tapes, Vol. 2, and which Mob member will be dropping next.
