A$AP Twelvyy On A$AP Yams, Renting Luxury Cars & Why He’s Staying Off The Internet

by @Djordje

“A$AP MOB, WHAT TIME IS IT?” was the recurring question of the evening at The Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles on Tuesday (October 24). The group pushed hard during its “AWGEST (August): Month of the Mob” campaign, kicking off the month-long takeover with A$AP Twelvyy’s 12 debut album, following it up with A$AP Ferg’s Still Striving and the crew-effort, Cozy Tapes Vol. 2. Those efforts have been rewarded with a sold-out 20-city tour.

With 12, Twelvyy aims to prove why he deserves the A$AP moniker in his name. Contrary to what many may think, Twelvyy is actually one of the founding members of the Mob and was handpicked by the late A$AP Yams himself.

Twelvyy’s “Hop Out” video currently sits at over 2 million views on YouTube — but to him, that’s nothing. He wants more. HipHopDX spoke with Twelvyy to discuss why his debut project took six years to be released, A$AP Yams, the pros and cons of social media, and more.

ASAP Twelvyy on Kyrie Irving, Michael Jackson’s Spirit and Spreading the Love

by @Djordje

Between dropping his long awaited debut album “12” to critical acclaim this summer and the continued success of ASAP Mob, ASAP Twelvyy is riding pretty high right now.

The rapper hopes to bring those good vibes to the Boston area when he and the rest of the ASAP crew perform at Tsongas Center in Lowell this weekend. ASAP Twelvyy tells Metro that he has a lot of love for Massachusetts and expects Saturday’s show “to be turnt.”

Aside from bringing the party to Bay State fans, the hip-hop star is excited to be back in town so he can bask in the glow of the region’s many championship-winning teams, namely the Celtics. ASAP Twelvyy is happy to see Kyrie Irving take his talents to Boston and thinks that the team will be exciting to watch this season.

“I know the whole Massachusetts area is on fire. You got Kyrie. It’s a rebirth right now,” he says. “I would love to see Kyrie and Gordon Hayward kill, and Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. It’s going to be real exciting.”

A$AP Twelvyy Interview with Acclaim Magazine

by @Djordje

A$AP Twelvyy self prophesised his ‘Last Year Being Broke’ in 2016 but it’s the release of his debut album12 that has him talking about his “first year being rich”. One of the original members of A$AP Mob, Twelvyy has often taken a backseat, letting Rocky and Ferg take the lead. With countless tour supports and features Twelvyy’s album is an incredible culmination of all the lessons he’s learnt over the years–a testament to his growth as well as a tribute to A$AP Yams.

Hailing from the streets of Harlem, Twelvyy proudly represents his city throughout 12. His brothers from A$AP Mob all feature heavily on the album. In between stories of violence, losing one’s innocence and the projects he is infectiously joyful. One of the best moments on the album is on ‘Hop Out’ with A$AP Ferg where Twelvyy matches his flow with a brotherly playfulness. Twelvyy does feel like the little brother of the crew who has found his footing but after we spoke on the phone it seems that rather than having found his way, he’s just found the right time. Timing is everything and with the spotlight finally on Twelvvy he is ready to embrace it. “I want the people to get to know me, I want to get the know people, I want to know how they feel about me, I want to know what’s up.”

(Video) A$AP Twelvyy Breaks Down “Strapped” for Genius

by @Djordje

Earlier this month, A$AP Mob member A$AP Twelvyy dropped his debut album 12. The lead single off the project is “Strapped,” a track that pays homage to Twelvyy’s humble beginnings on the streets of New York. The A$AP P on the Boards-produced song samples Sampha’s 2013 track “Beneath the Tree” on the chorus. As the Bronx rapper explains to Genius, “Strapped” is about survival of the fittest.

“I didn’t see us being where we are today. I didn’t see us being A$AP Twelvyy, A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, A$AP Mob,” he said. “On our come up, you gotta go through the trials and tribulations to be able to survive, you know? It’s about the survival of the fittest at the end of the day.”

A$AP Twelvyy recently sat down with Genius for the latest episode of Verified and broke down his new track.

(Video) A$AP Twelvyy Interview with Highsnobiety

by @Djordje

A$AP Twelvyy‘s debut has been a long time coming. After literal years in the works, the Mob-member blessed us with the aptly-titled 12 at the top of the month. We were into it, particularly into how Twelvyy was able to craft such a nuanced portrait of the city that raised that him without relying on pure nostalgia-driven dribble. He’s had ample growth opportunities in his time with the Mob, and on his first full-length, it really shows.

And though there are plenty of moments to choose from that demonstrate Twelvyy personally engaging with the listener, we were craving a bit more. So we caught up with the rapper shortly after 12‘s release to discuss crafting the record, his subtle indie-rock affiliations and which of the Mob’s members he would take out for ice cream. Read our chat below.
