A$AP Rocky Tells the Story Behind His New Under Armour Sneaker

by @Djordje

If anyone not named Kanye West is responsible for the decade-long love affair between high fashion and hip-hop, it’s A$AP Rocky. The Harlem rapper was shouting out Raf Simons and Rick Owens long before those designers were household names, and even longer before those same brands made sure he had first access to their newest wares. So it was more than a little surprising when the leader of the A$AP mob, showed the world his very first sneaker back in May—and it looked a whole lot like a much-maligned, 20-year-old skate shoe, the ultra-chunky, tongue-heavy Osiris D3. While peers like ‘Ye Big Sean, Pusha T, and Pharrell had jumped headlong into sneaker design, Rocky, ever the iconoclast, had taken his time…and rebooted a vintage skate shoe?

A$AP Rocky Covers the Holiday Issue of GQ Style

by @Djordje

The World’s Flyest Human. It’s a bold claim. But in the near-decade since A$AP Rocky bounded out of Harlem and landed smack in the center of the music-and-fashion Venn diagram, he’s earned the title. With his million-watt charisma and effortless style, he’s become the most influential dresser in the world—and a steady hitmaker to boot. As Will Welch says in our holiday cover story, “It’s not a stretch to say Rocky is responsible for making European high fashion as much a part of hip-hop and pop culture as streetwear.” For our photo shoot, we interrupted Rocky’s late-night London studio lockdown (he was hard at work on his forthcoming album) for the kind of daring, don’t-try-this-at-home fashion shoot that only Rakim Mayers can pull off. And in a rowdy backstage interview in Philadelphia, Rocky reveals details about his next solo record and his newly-inked Under Armour deal. Plus, with some help from the A$AP Mob, Rocky fields a batch of questions we gathered from Raf Simons, André 3000, Mahershala Ali, and more. Visit GQ Style tomorrow morning to read the interview, check out the cover shoot by photographer Andrew Dosunmu, and see for yourself: A$AP Rocky really is the world’s flyest human. Don’t @ us.

A$AP Ferg Is Ready to Tell the Truth About A$AP Ferg

by @Djordje

asap-ferg-darold-ferguson-jr-gq-interview-01

A$AP Ferg is not who you he think he is.

On paper, the Harlem-bred rapper is cocky and brash, seemingly taking pages out of a long-standing rap playbook: He gives himself nicknames like Trap Lord and Hood Pope, and on 2013’s “Shabba,” his biggest single to date, he raps about how “dirty van bitches wanna suck my dick.” He regularly wears mink jackets and a gold grill in his mouth. He makes music videos that fashion him into one of Jesus’s disciples.
But, as he’ll tell you, the real Ferg is far more complex.

Born Darold Ferguson Jr., the 27-year-old is an experimenter, an oddball, and an adaptable artist who figured he’d be a fashion designer—he designed T-shirts alongside his late boutique-owning father and even started his own line of belts. But he wound up a rapper. “I was designing, making money off that,” he says of the teenage years he spent painting silk-screened shirts by hand with a paintbrush and acrylic paints, following in his dad’s footsteps. “But I had another talent,” Ferg says. “Rapping.”

A$AP Rocky Named One of GQ’s 20 Most Stylish Men Alive

by @Djordje

tumblr_np2le3tPGv1r5drd2o1_1280

We got scientific on this. Hundreds of candidates considered. Thousands of street style photos analyzed. (To see exactly how scientific, click here.) We even spent several hours just contemplating Jared Leto’s hair. Then, after endless rounds of debate, we finalized our list and made it the cover of the July issue.

This is not about the celebrities who spend the most cash on designer clothes or hire the best stylists. Instead, we were looking for guys who carry themselves through the world with confidence and originality. Men who follow their own spirit guides. (Something tells us Kanye’s is a peregrine falcon, but don’t ask us why.) Men who can teach us a thing or two about how to get dressed—and whose moves we most want to steal.

So here they are: The twenty most stylish men alive.

Check Out A$AP Rocky’s 90’s Hip-Hop Playlist for GQ Magazine

by @Djordje

CHzWLqHWwAASd_T

Set in 2015, the coming-of-age comedy Dope is steeped in the sound of the ’90s: Malcolm, the protagonist (whose chance drug gain sets off the story), is obsessed with retro rap. But Rocky, in his acting debut, is the film’s true music authority. And while Chanel Iman—also in her acting debut—may be a bit more familiar with the runway than the recording studio, she knows a classic tune when she hears one. We asked both of them to make us ’90s playlists.

(Video) GQ Previews Exclusive A$AP Rocky Song Produced by Danger Mouse

by @Djordje

The rumors surrounding ASAP Rocky’s new project, At. Long. Last. ASAP, are that it’s good. Damn good. Good enough to project Lord Pretty Flacko Jodye into the conversation of the top music makers in the industry. That good. We know the album is going to be a bit psychedelic, druggy, and highly finessed—Harlem, Houston, and East London glued together with swagger. Everyone who’s heard the album knows it’s a smash—chief among those folks is Rocky himself. Which is exactly why him and his camp have been keeping the album so close to the chest. But not too close to deny us this short leak, shot by artist Daniel Arsham and produced by Danger Mouse. A.L.L.A. Is due out June 2nd. Hopefully this won’t be the last thing we see or hear before then.

A$AP Rocky Speaks to GQ on His New Album, His Movie ‘Dope’ & More

by @Djordje

It’s 1 P.M. On sunday and A$AP Rocky is lying on a sun-bleached wood banquette on the roof of his Hollywood home. With braided hair, an easy smile, and a square jaw, the kid’s not nicknamed Pretty Flacko for nothing. And from the canines back, top and bottom, his teeth glitter with pavé diamonds as an extra treat for the human eye. “I know it’s some weird shit,” Rocky says, fish-hooking his mouth with a finger to show off his new dental work. “But it’ll be cooler in two weeks, when it’s finished.”

Rocky is two all-nighters into a music-making bender and says he’s not tired, but he’s moving as if underwater and speaking in subdued non sequiturs. “It’s still my day before yesterday,” he says. And then, of the three-bedroom house with a beautiful kitchen and a treadmill where furniture should be: “I’m gonna miss it here. This was a place to fuck chicks, and I’ve outgrown it.”

Good news: There’s a stylish new way of getting dressed that’s specifically tailored for guys on the move. And the look’s got just the right amount of Jetsons to it: techy fabrics, a clean pair of sneakers, and a throw-it-away attitude. Nobody wears it better than globe-trotting rapper and fashion killer A$AP Rocky.

GQ Magazine x A$AP Illz: Hood to High Fashion

by @Djordje

asap-illz-hood-to-high-fashion-13

The ascent of the A$AP Mob is one of the most authentic New York stories of today. The thought that a group of friends in Harlem with similar styles and tastes could rapidly become pre-eminent tastemakers in music and fashion used to take decades, but thanks to the advent of social media platforms like Tumblr, Twitter, and Instagram—that time frame’s been reduced to mere months. The collective exudes a decidedly unique New York City energy that industry insiders and brands want to tap into, which is why it’s no surprise that DKNY tapped prominent member A$AP Rocky for its most recent campaign.
