(Video) A$AP Rocky & GUESS Party in a Three-Story Treehouse

by @Djordje

If you drive past the corner where Sherwood Drive and La Cienega Boulevard meet in Los Angeles on a normal day, you’ll see an empty store.

But if you rolled past on the evening of March 11, 2017, the fleet of matte pistol-colored Ferraris gathered around it or the flashing neon signs, head-thumping beats, and billowing cloud of smoke from a temporary treehouse on its roof just might have caught your attention. Inside, some of the city’s most recognizable musicians, models, and designers duked it out on ‘90s video games, while others danced on tables. They had come out to celebrate the launch of A$AP Rocky’s second capsule collection with Guess Originals and some of the luckier ones were fortunate enough to play Rocky himself at Pac-Man or find themselves invited to cosy up with the rapper in a teepee on of the more treehouse’s more secluded locations.

“Fashion is free, an expression,” said A$AP from the top of the stairs to the crowd on the entrance level floor at the party’s start. “It’s more than a lifestyle, it’s a culture. I’m glad people are finally cottoning on to dope shit. Get in my club house and get cosy—and wear my young and fun collection that reminds you of your favorite candies.”

The next day, the treehouse was converted into a popup store, but before the party wrapped, CR caught the whole thing on camera. Watch it unfold in the video bar above and click here to get the lowdown from A$AP Rocky himself on his new Guess collection.

A$AP Rocky & Guess Collaborate on Spring 2017 Collection

by @Djordje

A$AP Rocky, who is arguably fashion’s favorite hip-hop muse, is teaming with Guess on a second capsule collection for its Guess Originals x A$AP Rocky line called “Guess Club,” which hits stores such as Opening Ceremony and Black Market on March 10.

Last February, the rapper, whose given name is Rakim Mayers, linked with the denim powerhouse to debut a Guess Originals x A$AP Rocky capsule, based on the company’s archival pieces from the Eighties. According to Guess founder and chief creative officer Paul Marciano, fans were camped out in front of Guess boutiques around the world to purchase the pieces, which sold out in hours.

(Video) Preview of the GUESS Originals x A$AP Rocky Collection Presented by HBTV

by @Djordje

A time many consider to be the golden era of hip-hop, the late ’80s and early ’90s saw the explosion of a global phenomena we now call streetwear. Spanning from New York to Los Angeles, this brilliantly resourceful subculture laid claim to luxury fashion houses and designer brands alike, repurposing their rich history and high-end aesthetics for the concrete jungle that engulfed them. One of the first brands accepted by hip-hop’s unapologetic artists was a young and blossoming American brand by the name of GUESS.

The Los Angeles based brand quickly made a name for itself due to its premium denim adorned with the simple, yet very recognizable triangle emblem and question mark motif. It wasn’t before long that GUESS found its way into rap videos and urban cinema, creating a newfound trend within the world of hip-hop. However, many of those unforgettable designs have been frozen in time … until now. Thanks to the upcoming GUESS Originals x A$AP Rocky collaboration, you can finally recreate those iconic looks.

Reliving street fashion’s infant, albeit golden years, the above video, narrated by none other than Rocky himself, follows a group of rebellious youths seeking a nostalgic fix. Feeding their curiosity, the troop gets together and ends up crashing a huge warehouse, stumbling upon the soon-to-be-released GUE$$ capsule which includes pieces that pay homage to early ’90s hip-hop influences.

Within the range you’ll find pieces that add a contemporary edge to classic GUESS styles. The men’s collection features an oversized denim bomber jacket with large pocket detailing, tailored denim overalls, striped T-shirts, and hoodies. The women’s offering includes a reversible denim parka, an oversized denim jacket with striped paneling, acid wash denim shorts, classic overalls, and vintage-inspired skinny jeans.

The GUESS Originals x A$AP Rocky collection will be available globally in exclusive boutiques on January 30 and select GUESS stores in February.

A$AP Rocky x GUESS Polaroid Campaign

by @Djordje

Rapper and i-D cover star A$AP Rocky has been revealed as the first high-profile collaborator with GUESS on their new series of capsule collections, GUESS Originals, which pairs the brand with the hottest talent in fashion and entertainment, and i-D are able to reveal exclusive images by photographer Kimi Selfridge from the upcoming campaign.

Rocky worked with Paul Marciano, GUESS founder and Chief Creative Officer, to create a collection of striped T-shirts, retro logo print tees and crop tops, slim cut jeans and boxy denim jackets that nod to the GUESS obsessions of 90s hip hop stars, translating them to a 2016 tip.

“I wanted to give kids today knowledge of what GUESS meant to hip hop and the urban community in the 90s and late 80s. From the drug dealer on the corner with the T-shirt, the rapper Nas saying ‘When I get dressed, it’s nothing less than GUESS’ and Tupac in the movie Juice,” Rocky said at the downtown NY launch last night, as noted by Pret-a-reporter.

Referencing Rocky’s crew, retro style logo T-shirts and polonecks have injected their dollar sign styling into the label to read, “GUE$$ Jeans USA”. It’s not pretty, it’s gorgeous.

A$AP Rocky Interview with The Cut

by @Djordje

Inside a corner storefront on the Bowery, a couple of dudes are trying to hang a neon version of the GUESS triangle logo. The windows are made of one-way glass and look blacked out from the outside, so every couple of minutes, some passerby stops to peer curiously into the space. Little do they know that in here, we’ve rewound a couple of decades. The whole place is styled like a ’90s rec room — complete with NBA-themed video games (one frozen on a menu displaying a pixelated Charles Barkley), Alf and Green Hornet comic books, a VHS library that ranges from Tae Bo tapes to Pretty Woman, even a slightly lumpy corduroy couch. Depending on your perspective, it’s a fun #tbt, or, for those of us who recently entered our 30s, a harsh reminder that time’s wingèd chariot is hurtling ever nearer.

It’s all in service of A$AP Rocky’s line for GUESS Originals, which is, to say the least, heavily inspired by the decade — the rapper ventured into the archives to find pieces from the era to re-create. (Pieces from the line will be available for preorder on January 30, at retailers including Opening Ceremony; the full collection will launch February 15 at GUESS stores and online.) At a launch party later that night, promises a press release, guests can look forward to “munching on iconic nineties after school snacks and spiked punch.”

Rocky, who was sitting in the back of the venue at a picnic table covered with packages of Pop Rocks (presumably, the “iconic snacks” in question), spoke to the Cut about his ’90s memories, why you’ll see him walking around with a Super 8 camera, and the reason he wants to have a daughter.

A$AP Rocky Interview with i-D Magazine

by @Djordje

“I have many closets,” says A$AP Rocky. How many? “A few…” He cracks a smile that would look shy if it weren’t exposing two diamond-encrusted gold teeth.

It’s hardly a secret that Rocky is into fashion. He’s namechecked every major designer in his lyrics, from Balenciaga to Ann Demeulemeester. He’s starred in campaigns for his friend Alexander Wang. He regularly sits front row at New York Fashion Week. And, in 2013, he collaborated on a line with Raf Simons. He also collects vintage Issey Miyake, he tells me.

His latest venture though, has a more personal feel. Recently, Rocky reached out to GUESS to express his appreciation for the brand’s role in hip-hop history and how much it meant to him growing up. Not long after, he was flying out to LA, where the brand let him loose in its archive. The result is Archive: GUESS Originals x A$AP Rocky, a throwback collection of men’s and women’s pieces that look like 1996 but fit like 2016. There are striped tees stitched with “GUE$$ JEANS USA,” cute acid-washed crop tops, and skinny overalls printed with Rocky’s customized version of the brand’s iconic triangle.
