Smooky MarGielaa Interview with HotNewHipHop

by @Djordje

The Bronx, NY, birthplace of hip-hop and home to some of this genre’s most memorable artists. From KRS1 to Big Pun, to newer artists influencing the current landscape, such as A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Cardi B and many more, the Bronx almost organically produces hip-hop talents of all sorts and variations. The most recent boogie down Bronx artist to make a wave in the hip-hop scene is a young man by the name of Smooky Margielaa.

Smooky, only 15-years old, has generated a lot of attention online recently, and it’s not just for his young age and connections. The young MC’s knack to flow, often a combination of singing and rapping, struck the attention of Harlem’s very own, A$AP Rocky. You’ll notice Smooky’s name on a few tracks on the Cozy Tapes Vol. 2 and on projects with Mob affiliates such as Twelvyy, Marty Baller and more.

Smooky Margielaa stopped by the HNHH office recently, and spoke with us about how he connected with Rocky, when he started making music and projects that we should be looking out for.

(Video) A$AP Ferg Gives HNHH A Tour Of His Favorite Bodega In NYC

by @Djordje

A$AP Ferg shows us around his favorite bodega, where he shot “Doe-Active” and A$AP Rocky’s “Peso.”

The bodega is key for any native New Yorker. Chances are you have one that is your go-to, or your favorite, typically right around the corner or down the block from where ever you live– NYC or not.

Before the A$AP Mob boys blew up, they were regular customers at a specific bodega in Harlem (and perhaps they still are regular customers despite being uber famous), on 143rd and Hamilton Place to be exact. We got Ferg to take his to his old stomping grounds, across the street from where the crew shot the video for A$AP Rocky’s break-out single “Peso.” More recently, they mobbed in the aisle of this corner store for Ferg’s “Doe-Active” music video. It was obviously Ferg’s neighborhood, as the rapper was greeted by just about everyone inside and out of the bodega. Taking us inside the store though, Ferg orders his favorite sandwich (honey turkey and cheese) and shows us how he does Snapples– like a true gangsta, he says, “This is how my pops do the Snapples. We usually get the mango joint, grab the Snapple, throw the top away. Never see the top again. Cause we don’t save juice. I never read what’s inside the cap, cause I don’t care.” However, the Arizona Ice Tea’s are definitely worth saving according to Fergie Ferg.

Find out more of Ferg’s bodega essentials in the video above.

Crew Love: A$AP Mob

by @Djordje

600_1391446426_crewlove_a_ap_68

As yesterday’s flash mob in NYC proved, the A$AP name can still send fans into frenzied riots.

A$AP Rocky was the first member of the crew to blow up, doing so with his 2011 mixtape Live.Love.A$AP, but the world was eventually introduced to the colorful cast of characters who make up his Harlem-based A$AP Mob crew. With fashion endeavors, guest spots, production credits, and eventually mixtapes and albums of their own, the rest of the A$AP (“Always Strive And Prosper”) family are proving that they’re more than Rocky’s fashionable sidekicks.

With the exception of A$AP’s AV, J. Scott, Josh, Relli and Lou (none of whom make music), here’s an in-depth look at eleven A$AP Mobbers and the various roles they play in the crew. Most of them will appear on the Mob’s recently-announced L.O.R.D. EP, due out on March 4th.
