Austin barely survived the supertornado that was SXSW 2017. HNHH caught up with A$AP Ferg, Denzel Curry, CyHi the Prynce, Saba and Pivot Gang, Kodie Shane, Trill Sammy, Joey Purp, Kweku Collins and DJ Boathouse, KAMI, & Ta’East down in the torrid Texas winter and asked them to dish on SXSW essentials and favorite and least favorite aspects of the festival.
The music world has invaded SXSW for the week, and Complex News is down in Austin, Texas to capture the best moments. Like for instance, Desiigner crashing our interview with ASAP Ferg while whipping a scooter.
After settling down, the two New York rappers big each other up, like Ferg praising Desiigner for his unique style whenever he hits the red carpet. Ferg also explains his new project Still Striving is coming soon, and does his best DJ Khaled impression.
If you’ve ever seen any of the A$AP Mob in action, you probably know by know that any of their individual shows can get a little rowdy. But together, the crew is a live force that’s nearly unstoppable.
Nearly because they have occasionally been stopped, and had their shows shut down for any number of reasons, the main one being: They’re on a roll right now, and who wouldn’t want to pack in a venue to see them? While at The COMPLEX Complex at this year’s SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, we somehow managed to catch a few of them at once, in one place: A$AP Ferg,A$AP Ant, A$AP Twelvy, and A$AP Nast. Check the video above to hear them talk about how the Mob holds it down during their live performances, and what it’s like when things get a little too crazy.
A$AP Rocky is the latest artist to be featured in the ‘Art Film’ series documenting this year’s festivities at The ILLMORE during SXSW. When Rocky and the A$AP Mob hit the stage, it really became a party and they were clearly present that evening to have a good time and connect with those in attendance. MikeWillMadeIt even pops up. Watch it all unfold in this Uzi directed visual above.
A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg hardly ever appear on stages without the entire A$AP Mob, and the same held true for this year’s SXSW festival, and VIBE was in the building. Taking to the stage at the Mass Appeal x GrooveShark #SXSWTakeOver, the whole gang was there as they ran through a super-amped rendition of “Shabba Ranks.”
Noisey’s first feature-length documentary SVDDXNLY, starring A$AP Rocky, will make its world premiere at the 2014 South by Southwest Film Festival.
Through footage along with extensive interviews with A$AP Mob, their friends, and families, SVDDXNLYprovides an intimate, in-depth look behind the scenes of A$AP Rocky’s rise to fame. The David Laven-directed doc will premiere in the 24 Beats Per Second category and is narrated by A$AP Rocky with appearances by and interviews with Rihanna, Wiz Khalifa, Macklemore, Kathy Griffin, Jeremy Scott, and more.
Of course, it will be scored to Rocky’s greatest hits, featuring unreleased music from the upcoming instrumental album, Beauty & The Beast: Slowed Down Sessions (Chapter 1).
SVDDXNLY will be Laven’s feature directorial debut.
